Apex® industrial grade magnetic long length impact sockets are available in a wide range of hex opening sizes. Apex® magnetic impact sockets hold the fastener in driving position, even when working straight down. Time-wasting motions are eliminated when starting fasteners or working in hard-to-reach areas. Apex® magnetic impact sockets are identified with a M- prefix. As the nut is run down, a spring-loaded or hollow cylinder magnet allows the bolt or stud to retract into the socket body. Nuts are held firmly in the socket. These Apex® impact sockets are identified with a MB- prefix.

Standard sockets are not equipped to handle the high torque of an impact wrench due in part to the materials used to make them. Standard sockets are usually made from chrome, which is a fairly soft metal alloy and can split and shatter when exposed to excessive vibration.
